Floyd Mayweather’s offer to fight Conor McGregor wearing 8oz gloves has come good.
Floyd Mayweather followed through with his offer to use 8oz gloves for his August 26 bout against Conor McGregor, despite the Dubliner’s initial dismissive response. Representatives of both fighters stated their case for the use of lighter gloves at the NAC meeting on Wednesday.
After hearing the arguments from both representatives, the commission passed a one-time waiver allowing the use of 8oz gloves for the bout set at 154lbs. They concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that the use of smaller gloves brings up health and safety concerns.
According to the rules, fighters over 135lbs should wear 10oz gloves, but fighters between the 135lbs to the 147lbs range are able to wear 8oz gloves upon agreement.

The commission stipulated that the gloves must have a sufficient amount of padding. To ensure they do, they will be inspected by the chairman and executive chairman on the evening of the fight. The gloves must also be given to the NAC after they’re used.
Robert Byrd was appointed to referee the bout and the judges were also selected at the meeting. It was decided that Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Guido Cavalieri will score the 12-round contest.
