Child interviewing Premier League star is a breath of fresh air

Tom Victor

Many interviews with footballers can feel a bit stilted these days, but charity Football Beyond Borders seems to have found a solution.

Rather than getting experienced interviewers in a room with Premier League footballers, they’ve decided to let children ask the questions.

Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie was interviewed by cheeky host Mehrshad, who did away with the usual questions and instead asked the Congolese international about his FIFA skill rating and who he’d most like to nutmeg.

It was a charming approach, and offered a breath of fresh air compared to some of the bigger interviews you sometimes come across.

It is just the latest great initiative from the UK charity, which aims to use football tackle inequality and ensure those from less privileged backgrounds have the same opportunities in life as anyone else.

Football Beyond Borders runs coaching and mentoring sessions at six schools in deprived areas of the country, and has also worked with underprivileged children overseas in Brazil, West Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
