Chelsea set to announce Sarri *and* beat Man City to Jorginho

A blow for the Premier League champions

Chelsea look poised to complete a transfer hi-jacking

Jorginho, the Brazilian-born Italian international, had looked all set to complete a move to Manchester City over the summer. Pep Guardiola was said to be keen on the midfielder who had played against City for Napoli in last season’s Champions League.

However, a meeting between Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Roman Abramovich looks to have swung things in Chelsea’s way.

Antonio Conte remains Chelsea’s manager but it set to be replaced by Maurizio Sarri, who left Napoli at the end of the season. It’s now emerged that Sarri will be bringing Jorginho with him.

De Laurentiis has confirmed not only that Sarri is bound for London, but also that the midfielder is highly likely to be moving there – despite Napoli reaching an agreement with City two weeks ago.

“I’m sorry with Manchester City because we reached an agreement for Jorginho 15 days ago,” he is quoted as saying. “But Chelsea is going to offer more to Napoli and to Jorginho for his contract, so he’ll join Chelsea I guess.”

The news will come as a blow to City, who had also been looking to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk before he moved to Manchester United.
