Talks ongoing to stage Champions League final outside Europe for the first time

Following the controversial La Liga decision to host a game from the Spanish top flight in America, it's emerged that talks are underway for a Champions League final to take place on US soil. Barcelona's away game against Girona in La Liga will be staged in Miami on the weekend of January 26-27 and it has proven unpopular with supporters of both teams. And it's very likely that a Champions League final in the US won't go down well at all. The London Evening Standard reports that Jaume Roures, chief executive of Barcelona-based television company Mediapro, has sensationally revealed that wheels are in motion for New York City to host the biggest club game of the year at a future date. "Talks are ongoing investigating the feasibility of hosting a future Champions League final in New York City," Roures told Catalunya Radio's 'El Mati' show. It would be the first time that a Champions League final would take place outside of Europe and while it looks quite a way off becoming a reality right now, it's clear that Uefa are eager to take advantage of the lucrative American market.
