Celtic fan runs on the pitch and tries to kick Kylian Mbappe

Paul Moore

The incident took place just after Celtic went 3-0 down.

As soon as the draw was made, Brendan Rodgers knew that his side faced a daunting task in their Champions League group after being drawn against PSG, Bayern Munich and Anderlecht. While the Glasgow giants would fancy themselves at home against any team, the French side absolutely schooled the Scottish champions in the opening 45 minutes.

Goals from Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani put the visitors 3-0 up before the break as Celtic were left chasing shadows.  By scoring, Mbappe has become the first teenager to score for more than one club in the Champions League.

After Cavani scored the third goal from the penalty spot, one home supporter at Celtic Park ran onto the pitch and attempted to kick the £166m French wonderkid.

He missed and was escorted away by stewards.

During their half-time analysis, BT Sport presenter Darrell Currie confirmed the incident. He said: “It’s not been a good night so far for Celtic and a fan came on the pitch as well, confronted Mbappe. And I can tell you, all the rest of the fans around us were fuming, furious with him going on the pitch.”

In recent seasons, Celtic have incurred 12 fines from UEFA and they’ll be expecting another one following this incident.
