The 34-year-old midfielder joined Messi at Inter Miami on a free transfer from Manchester United in July, signing a deal that runs to the end of the 2027 MLS campaign with an option to extend until June 2029.

Major League Soccer announced its review of the transfer minutes after the deal was confirmed, with the probe centring on Casemiro's discovery rights, a regulation, in place since the league formed in 1996, that gives one club first refusal on a player.

Kuntz, speaking after his side's goalless draw with Dallas, was asked about the investigation into the move.

"It is true that Casemiro called and said that he always wanted to play for Inter Miami. It's also true that came two months after he told us that he only wanted to play for the Galaxy."

The California club held the discovery rights but said Miami had acquired them, while the league confirmed it was "gathering all relevant information" and would "refrain from further comment until the review is complete".

Both clubs say a settlement has been reached, with the terms to be released once the tampering investigation concludes, as BBC Sport reported.
