Carl Froch stripped of WBA title and may never fight again

We may have seen the last of Carl Froch.

Froch has been stripped of his WBA title following 12 months of inactivity in the sport. The committee had revoked the Nottingham native's belt, which follows closely after a Las Vegas showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Junior fell through after Froch sustained an elbow injury. Froch had already vacated his IBF title, and according to his promoter Eddie Hearn, he may not return to the sport. "We have no problem with the decision from the WBA. Carl has been out of the ring for nearly a year now and there is certainly no guarantee that he will fight again," Hearn told Sky Sports. "They need to keep their belts active and that's not possible with Carl's current position. It's likely we will make a further announcement regarding Carl's future over the next week or so." A rematch with WBA champion Andre Ward is still a possibility for Froch, however, if the American dispatches Paul Smith in June. The WBA has stated that Froch will be the mandatory challenger to Ward following his non-title fight against British boxer Smith. Fedor Chudinov and Felix Sturm will slug it out in Frankfurt on Saturday to decide the new WBA super-middleweight champion.
