Joe Hart will also miss out

Gareth Southgate is set to announce his 23-man England squad for the World Cup tomorrow, and there will be a few big omissions. Earlier it was reported that Joe Hart would miss out, after a disastrous Euro 2016 and failing to earn his place back during the two seasons in between.

It is now being reported by the Guardian that Jack Wilshere is set to miss out too. The Arsenal midfielder has struggled with his fitness over the years, but has avoided injury for the entirety of this season. Despite this, Southgate reportedly feels he hasn’t done enough to earn his spot back. The last time he played for England was in that infamous 2-1 loss to Iceland in Euro 2016.

Fabian Delph is reported to be included in Southgate’s plans, after impressing for Manchester City this season, filling in at left-back for the injured Benjamin Mendy.

There are still other selection headaches for Southgate, particularly in defence, with Joe Gomez ruled out through injury. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Clyne will be pushing Kieran Trippier close for the second choice right-back slot, while Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey’s form at Newcastle this season has got people calling for their inclusion.
