‘There is no club investigation into my conduct as incorrectly reported in the media’

Norwich City defender Brandon Williams has denied reports that the club are investigating him after he posted a picture to his Instagram story of himself putting up a middle finger.

The 21-year-old played in the Canaries’ 4-0 loss to West Ham on Sunday and responded to allegations that supporters had tried to visit his property with two messages on social media.

Williams followed home after Norwich match

Williams posted a picture of himself giving the middle finger on his story with the caption: “What a beautiful day. Easy up Norwich City.”

He then posted a picture of his dog outside in the garden, adding: “To all the fans who followed me home he’s always awake.”

Previous reports claimed that a small group of people had been driving behind Williams in Norwich after the match, but did not arrive at his property.

Williams has now confirmed that he was ‘taunted and abused’ by fans following the game, and that some individuals started to follow him home until they realised he had noticed them.

Norwich defender releases statement

The Manchester United loanee released a statement confirming that Norwich City were not investigating him after his social media post.

His statement read: “Yesterday after leaving the stadium I was taunted and abused by fans surrounding the stadium whilst I was in my car.

“After the abuse I was followed by individuals who only stopped following me once they became aware I had noticed them.

“However passionate fans are it is not right that a small minority abuse players or, in this case, follow them.

“Since arriving at Norwich I have played for the club as if I were a permanent member of the team.

“It is unfortunate that a small number of fans behave like this.

“There is no club investigation into my conduct as incorrectly reported in the media. I would like to thank those fans who have sent me messages of support at this unsettling time.”

Sportsmail reported that the Canaries had spoken to Williams about the post, but that the situation had been resolved and no action would be taken.

Williams joined Norwich on a season-long loan from the Red Devils at the start of the season, having made his first team debut at Old Trafford as a teenager under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Englishman has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Norwich since arriving at Carrow Road, registering one assist.
