The German club kick off the new Bundesliga season at home to RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon.
They had debutant Axel Witsel to thank as they avoided humiliation in their first competitive game of the new season. The Belgian international, a summer signing from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, had only just entered the field of play when Dortmund fell behind to second tier Greuther Furth in the German Cup on Monday night.
Fortunately, Witsel volleyed home a last-gasp equaliser to send the game to extra-time and avoid a shock first-round exit. Marco Reus later added a winner in the final seconds of extra-time to make sure Lucien Favre's side progressed to the next round.
