Borussia Dortmund director says he ‘would bet €100’ on Erling Haaland staying at the club

It certainly doesn’t provide Dortmund fans with much confidence

Borussia Dortmund’s head of first-team football Sebastian Kehl has suggested that he ‘would bet €100’ on Erling Haaland remaining at the Signal Iduna Park.

The former midfielder was asked whether the striker – who has attracted interested from a number of clubs in recent months – would remain at Dortmund beyond the current 2021/22 campaign.

In an attempt to reassure fans that Haaland would remain in yellow and black, Kehl revealed exactly how much he would be willing to bet on the Norway international staying at the club – a measly €100.

Evidently, this is far from a convincing sum considering the reported value of Haaland, who has grabbed 13 goals and four assists in 1o appearances so far this season.

“Of course, we are trying to give him the feeling that Borussia Dortmund continues to be a top address for him and that he can still develop here,” Kehl told Bild.

“Maybe we can still convince him. We will fight for him. We will try everything.

“The decision has not yet been made, but I would bet €100 [on him staying].”

It is widely suggested that the 21-year-old has a release clause in the region of £64million, which comes into affect next summer.

Haaland – who joined Dortmund from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020 – is currently out injured after suffering a hip injury.

Dortmund’s director of sport Michael Zorc has stated that he is hopeful that the frontman will play again this year.

He said: “It is too early to name an exact date (of when he will return) but we hope he can play again this year.”

The Norwegian’s return to fitness is vital if the eight-time German champions are to continue challenging current league leaders Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.
