Bookies slash the odds on Man United signing – and it’s not Anthony Martial

Manchester United are clearly in need of a new striker or two, and bookmakers seem to think they’ll be staying close to home for their next signing.

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Charlie Austin moving to Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window, with the QPR striker odds-on with several sportsbooks to head back to the Premier League under Louis van Gaal.

Austin has just one year left on his current contract, but the London club are holding out for around £12m for the player who top-scored for them in the Premier League last season.

But after missing out on a place in the England squad for the qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland, the 26-year-old may feel he has no chance of international recognition unless he moves to a top-flight club.
