Bolton player scores with long-range block tackle

Reuben Pinder

The most chaotic goal you’ll see all season

Bolton Wanderers picked up three points against relegation threatened Fleetwood to go ninth in League One on Saturday afternoon.

In the final game of their regular season, it was goals galore at the University of Bolton Stadium (almost said Reebok out of habit there), with the hosts bagging four to Fleetwood’s two.

But there was one goal in particular that grabbed people’s attention, even those who couldn’t care who won the game, like you. And me.

With the score tied at 2-2, the two sides were battling for control, gifting the crowd a sequence of 50/50 tackles more enthralling that most passing passages in Premier League ties.

The last of these challenges from Dion Charles resulted in the ball flying high and fast towards Fleetwood’s goal, and eventually dropping over Alex Cairns’ head and into the net, in what must be the most chaotic goal of the season.

That put Bolton 3-2 up and the hosts put the game to bed deep in injury time with Jón Daði Böðvarsson’s strike to pip Portsmouth to ninth in the table.
