Play was suspended for 11 minutes
Bolton Wanderers’ game against Morecambe was suspended on Saturday after there were allegations of racist abuse from home fans towards the Bolton bench.
Morecambe were leading 1-0 at the time with Wanderers boss Ian Evatt walking on to the pitch to speak to referee Ross Joyce, who subsequently took the players off the pitch – with play resuming 11 minutes later.
A post from Bolton’s Twitter account read: “With Ian Evatt furious with something said in the stands by a home fan behind the dugout, the referee has pulled the players off the pitch.
“One home fan had already been ejected a few minutes ago.”

As reported by Sky Sports, there were plenty of incidents during the game at the Mazuma Stadium which included a lighter being thrown onto the pitch whilst Bolton’s Oladapo Afolayan and members of the away side’s coaching staff claim to have been the victims of racial abuse.
Play eventually resumed with Bolton getting a late equaliser courtesy of Amadou Bakayoko and after the game, Morecambe released a statement to confirm they would investigate what had happened.

It read: “Morecambe Football Club are aware of a series of incidents and allegations that have been made during Saturday’s fixture against Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One.
“The club will work with all relevant authorities to investigate the above.
“Morecambe FC will be making no further comment at this time.”
Bolton have yet to release a statement as of yet.
