Benjamin Mendy suggests he is open to Leeds United move in Twitter exchange

The Manchester City full-back tweeted his approval of his former coach Marcelo Bielsa, and jokingly suggested to a Leeds fan that he'd be open to a move

Mendy is a huge Bielsa fan

Football has a lot to thank Marcelo Bielsa for. His philosophy forms the basis of how Mauricio Pochettino and Diego Simeone’s teams play football, and for that we should all be grateful.

The list of players who praise the now Leeds coach for his influence on their careers is endless too. One of the more prominent Bielsa disciples is Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy, who worked under the coach at Marseille, before Mendy moved on to Monaco and then City.

On more than one occasion the Frenchman has tweeted praise for Bielsa this season. Bielsa’s Leeds won again tonight, beating Preston North End 3-0. Mendy was clearly keeping a keen eye on the game, more so than Liverpool vs PSG, as his Twitter activity shows.

One Leeds fan gave a witty response, saying “I’d have you at Leeds but Barry Douglas has been very good,” to which Mendy responded by suggesting he was open to the move.

If there was any doubt: obviously Mendy is joking. But his admiration for Bielsa is clear to see, and an example of his influence on the game, despite his barren trophy cabinet and managerial career that has seen peaks and troughs.
