Barcelona’s Arda Turan mocks Arsenal with cruel burn

Nooruddean Choudry

Well this is a bit uncalled for.

As Ronan Keating once sang, being an Arsenal fan is a rollercoaster. Just when they think it’s definitely their season, something goes wrong post-Christmas and it all goes to pot. What they don’t need in their current tender state is a world star having a go for no reason.

Alas Barcelona’s popular Turkish recruit Arda Turan did just that with a needlessly unprovoked (although very funny) burn. Speaking to Diari Ara, the 29-year-old was talking about his positive mental attitude, and how it was always his ambition to end up at Camp Nou.

But in doing so, he made a distinction between playing ‘well’ and ‘very well’ that won’t go down too well with Arsene Wenger and Gooners everywhere.

“I always felt that I would sign for Barca,” explains Turan. “In all honesty, I used to think, if I play very well I will end up signing for Barca, because my style fits into this team.” That sounds perfectly reasonable so far.

“But if I play well, I will end up at Arsenal.” We suspect it was meant as a kind of compliment…but not really.
