Atletico Madrid youth prospect signs for team in England’s eighth tier

Tom Victor

We often hear about top-flight footballers who started out playing part-time while working in any manner of jobs, but one Spanish prospect has done it in reverse.

Guille Fernandez followed the likes of Raul and Fernando Torres through the Atletico Madrid production line, but he has now done what those in the business refer to as a ‘Reverse-Lambert’.

While Rickie Lambert famously started out in a beetroot factory while playing non-league football, Fernandez has taken a job in a hotel in the Channel Islands and signed a contract with part-timers Guernsey FC in the Ryman League Division 1 South.

After rubbing shoulders with future La Liga players in his youth, the 26-year-old’s opponents next season will include Corinthian Casuals, Peacehaven and Telscombe, and South Park FC.
