Arsene Wenger and his new Arsenal trainers went down a storm against Bayern Munich

He breathes Arsenal. He bleeds Arsenal. He has Arsenal on his feet!

Has there ever been a more explicit display of commitment to a football club?

Sure, we’ve seen managers wear club tracksuits or club ties before but this… This is next level stuff from Arsene Wenger.

On Monday, Wenger became the longest serving manager in Premier League history and he’s celebrated by snatching himself some Arsenal trainers.

You don’t often see 67-year-old men sporting bright red shoes with a football club’s badge on the tongue but Wenger is no regular 67-year-old.

Wenger eclipsed Sir Alex’s Ferguson’s 7,582-day tenure as Manchester United boss this week and in his first game since claiming that honour from his former foe, the Arsenal boss went all out.

Sandwiched between Jens Lehmann and Vic Akers on the bench during Wednesday’s preseason meeting with Bayern Munich, Wenger proudly modelled his new club-branded footwear with accompanying dazzling white socks.

Taking a quick break from the shoe-chat, we should let you know that the Gunners beat the side who have so often sent them crashing out of Europe in recent years on penalties in Shanghai after playing out a 1-1 draw.

Alex Iwobi grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for Arsenal or something but enough about that.

Back to the trainers, which went down an absolute storm among supporters.
