Arsenal’s search for reinforcements might be ending, but fans haven’t heard of the new players

In an era where everyone seems to be an expert on every single player, it’s refreshing to see fans of a club admit they have no idea about a potential signing.

Perhaps it’s a consequence of Arsenal fans having been stung in the past – remember when they got excited about the arrival of Fernando Wwirst…only to find out he was a made up player.

So, when Marca linked Deportivo de La Coruña forward Lucas Pérez to the club, Gooners were surprisingly okay admitting they had no idea who he is.

The thing is, they might have gone too far in the other direction.

Not knowing about Fernando Wwirst is fine, what with him not existing. But these guys are happy to admit they know nothing about a guy who scored 17 goals in La Liga last season.

Never heard of Lucas Perez before last night. Just hoping he can play CF. He's already 27 so just hope his peak is good enough.

Pérez is one of two players thought to be close to a move to North London, the other being Ömer Toprak.

The Turkish international is seen as a potential solution to the ongoing injury crisis at centre-back, with Turkish-Football.com reporting that he is open to a move away from Bayer Leverkusen.

Both players are likely to cost £15m or so, and similar questions are being asked of the German-born defender’s quality.
