Arsenal youngsters’ performance against Bayern could be a bad omen

The UEFA Youth League can provide some of Europe's top teams with plenty of inspiration.

Under-19 sides are matched up in groups that mirror the senior Champions League, playing the same opponents as the senior side on each gameweek. There were positives for Arsenal last time out, where an Alex Iwobi-inspired 2-0 win over Bayern under-19s was followed by victory for Arsene Wenger's first team by the same scoreline. But the return leg offers the Gunners slightly less to shout about. 17-year-old midfielder Ben Sheaf fired a penalty over the bar in a 1-1 draw, bringing back painful memories of Mesut Özil's miss from the spot in the 2013/14 last 16. A draw in Munich wouldn't be a terrible result, but if Wenger's men get awarded a penalty we doubt they'll go for power.
