Arsenal have been placed on a UEFA watchlist of clubs who are at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Gunners are one of the 20 clubs identified by the European football governing body for breaching regulations during the 2021-2022 season.

UEFA have still yet to receive the final accounts from the teams in question, meaning it is unclear as to how much trouble Arsenal could actually be in.

Arsenal reported losses of £213m over the course of the last three years however UEFA only allow a total loss of €30m (£25m) over this period.

The governing body do account for covid-related losses as well as any ‘healthy spending’ that has gone on improving their women’s teams and academies to be written off.

Despite the threat of breaking FFP rules, Arsenal have remained one of the most active clubs in the transfer market over the last few years.

Last season the Gunners spent over £150m and have invested heavily again this year with signings such as Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko and are also reported to be interested in signing Pedro Neto.

UEFA meanwhile are set to hand out fines to 10 teams, which include Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and the Italian trio of Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma for breaching rules during the 2020-2021 campaign.

FFP regulations are set to be changed from next year, with UEFA set to implement rules that will only allow clubs to spend a certain percentage of their revenue across 12 months on wages, transfers and agent fees.

The limit is set to stand at 90 per cent in 2023 before dropping to 80 per cent in 2024 and then a further 10 per cent in 2025.
