Arsene Wenger doesn’t do a lot of business in January.

Sure, the likes of Theo Walcott, Andrey Arshavin and Nacho Monreal all signed during Winter transfer windows gone by but the Arsenal manager prefers to do his more significant spending in the summer so he can get a full preseason out of the players.

That trend could be turned upside down, though, if their gargantuan bid for the Bundesliga’s top scorer is accepted.

The Telegraph are reporting that Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a long-time target for both Arsenal and Manchester United, has officially been approached by the North London club.

The Gabon international has been the subject of a whopping £44.6m bid from the Gunners as Arsene Wenger looks to tighten his grip on the Premier League title.

The second half of the season has been an issue for Arsenal sides over the years who have too often come too close to league glory before falling at the final hurdle.

Injuries typically take their toll in the home straight and Wenger is hopeful that having an extra proven goalscorer in his side would ease the ever-growing pressure as May approaches.

Aubameyang, 26, has scored 18 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season to help Dortmund actually score more than league leaders Bayern Munich in the first half of the campaign.

And Arsenal have every right to feel confident of procuring his services considering the on the subject.
