Arsenal fans were disappointed to learn that midfielder Francis Coquelin was facing a spell on the sidelines.

According to reports, Arsene Wenger could even dip into the transfer market in a bid to bolster his midfield following the loss of the Frenchman.

With Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker already key members of the Arsenal set up, the Daily Mail have suggested that Arsenal may now look to their countryman Lars Bender to strengthen their spine.

The midfielder currently plies his trade with Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen – but he isn’t the only name being linked with a move to the Emirates.

Along with Bender, Portuguese international William Carvalho is a player that the report claims is also on the Arsenal boss’s short-list.
