Can lower league football clubs survive coronavirus?
The outbreak and spread of the coronavirus shows no sign of abating anytime soon. While the British government continues to resist implementing measures such as closing schools and cancelling major events, the responsibility has fallen on individual sporting authorities to make decisions themselves.
This has led to the Premier League and the English Football League making the decision to suspend competition until early April. This measure is not one which will massively impact Premier League sides, with match day receipts less a necessity when shirt sponsorship and television money is taken into account.
For clubs lower down the pyramid however the lack of tickets being purchased for matches will seriously impact their financial health. Can they survive an extend period with matches taken place? We spoke to Ivor Heller, commercial director at AFC Wimbledon, to find out.
