Anthony Joshua shows off remarkable hand speed for a heavyweight

'AJ' is looking lean

Anthony Joshua looks to be sticking to his promise for his unification bout with Joseph Parker.

Joshua has vowed to prioritise speed over size for his next fight, having weighed in at a career heaviest ahead of his last outing.

Mobility was identified as key by Joshua’s trainer, Rob McCracken, as ‘AJ’ aims to add Parker’s WBO heavyweight title to his stock of belts at the end of this month.

Last month, we got a glimpse of a significantly lighter Joshua when promoter Eddie Hearn provided proof that the London 2012 gold medallist would be much leaner when he hits the scales in Cardiff on the eve of his clash with New Zealand’s Parker.

After being criticised for having a tendency to move with rigidity and possessing potential issues with staying power due to his muscular physique, ‘AJ’ has clearly focused on shedding some mass.

And it would look like the 28-year-old is faster than ever as Joshua showed off some incredible hand speed in training during the week.

“I think I’ve learned about my weight now and as I get older, what I’m eating,” Joshua said recently

“I think speed is in power. When you’re heavy and you try to club these durable fighters, it’s not that simple just to go ‘boom’.

“Just because I’m the most muscly man, it doesn’t mean I can just hit someone and knock them out.

“It’s the shot that you don’t see coming that knocks you out.

“When I’m quicker – bang, bang, bang – that’s when I can knock my opponents down a lot easier.”
