Alisson Becker to have Liverpool medical on Thursday

Nearly there, Liverpool fans. Nearly there…

Alisson Becker is in the UK, poised to complete his move to Liverpool.

The Brazilian international is set to become the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football when the move is finalised, with reports claiming AS Roma will receive near double the £34.7m Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson a year ago.

Despite earlier claims that a fee had been agreed between the two clubs, latest reports suggest that is not the case. However, Roma have given their blessing for Alisson to travel to Liverpool and have his medical – a clear sign that any remaining negotiations over his price are expected to be a formality.

According to Paul Joyce, the medical is set to take place on Thursday, with Liverpool preparing a six-year contract for the 25-year-old – not a five-year deal, as had been reported earlier.

Alisson, who has been at Roma for two years, will become the fourth major signing at Anfield this summer after the arrivals of Fabinho from AS Monaco, Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City. Some reports have suggested Liverpool may follow their deal for Alisson by reigniting their pursuit of Nabil Fekir. The French international’s move from Lyon to Anfield appeared imminent before the World Cup, only for it to collapse at the eleventh hour.

It was also announced by Liverpool on Wednesday that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is likely to miss the entire 2018/19 season as he recovers from the knee injury sustained in the Champions League semi-final against Roma last April.

Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website that Oxlade-Chamberlain had been aware of the estimated recovery time following successful surgery on the knee days after the injury, but asked for it to be kept private so as not to distract his teammates from their Champions league run.
