Liverpool’s Alisson has revealed how Philippe Coutinho played a part in persuading him to make a summer move to Anfield.

Coutinho, who left Merseyside for Barcelona in January, played alongside Alisson for Brazil at the World Cup. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the goalkeeper has explained how he discussed the possibility of the transfer with him before they jetted out to Russia.

“I spoke to Coutinho before the World Cup as I knew there was interest,” he explains. “We talked about the regular things – the way the club is set up, the structure and the staff. But we also talked about the belief, the sort of family atmosphere at the club.

“It’s not just a football club, we are one big family. He spoke highly of Jurgen [Klopp] and he spoke about the players.

“He said there is no vanity in the squad but it’s a very ambitious squad with a strong desire to win. I saw that on the pitch last season in the Champions League semi-final.

“Our wives spoke to each other and they said they had a great time living here and were very happy. What Coutinho told me added to what I had already witnessed playing here at Anfield and it all came together and made sense.”

Alisson was briefly the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when he arrived in England, Liverpool paying Roma £65m for him. However, Chelsea’s decision to spend £71m on Kepa Arrizabalaga meant that he only held that title for a matter of days.
