Alexis Sanchez confirms his wish to play Champions League football

Brace yourselves, Arsenal fans

Alexis Sanchez has given the clearest indication yet that he wants to leave Arsenal this summer.

The Chilean, who has a year left on his current Gunners deal, has told a radio station back in his homeland that he is eager to play Champions League football – something which Arsenal will not be able to offer their star man next season.

For the first time in over two decades, Arsenal have failed to qualify for the Champions League and will instead drop into the Europa League.

“I want to play in the Champions League,” he told Radio Sport Chile.

“The decision isn’t down to me, I need to wait for Arsenal.

“I’ve made my decision, now I wait for Arsenal’s reply. The idea is to play and win the Champions League.

“I’ve dreamt about it since I was a kid.”

These comments would imply that Sanchez is hoping to secure a move before the start of the new season. Already this summer, he’s been linked with moves to Manchester City and Chelsea, with Manchester United also said to be monitoring the situation too.

German champions Bayern Munich were also believed to be admirers, although their recent loan deal for James Rodriguez appears to have put an end to this interest.

As the man himself points out, any decision to sell will rest with Arsenal.
