In the opening minutes of the the ITM Cup between Northland and Southland in New Zealand, the Northland outhalf Dan Hawkins attempts a clearance kick from inside his own 22.
But in one of the most bizarre moments we've seen on a rugby pitch, Hawkins's kick causes the ball to burst and it is charged down by an onrushing Tom Boys - who duly picks up the ball and scores the opening try of the game.

Apparently deflated by the whole experience, Northland went on to lose the game 27-18.
