Mellieha beach is just a stones throw away and is often hailed as the best beach in Malta with its long sandy beach and shallow water, perfect for taking a relaxing paddle.

Further up the island, a short drive away is Popeyes Village, the former film set of the 1980s film which has grown into one of Malta's biggest tourist attractions.

Weather permitting, tourists can also take a short boat ride to Gozo, or cruise round Comino and the Blue Lagoon.

Malta is renowned for its amazing scuba diving opportunities in the glorious Mediterranean sea which surrounds the island.

The size of the island means that it is easy to get around on public transport or via hiring a car - the English-style road system makes it less daunting than it sounds.
