Ryanair, Easyjet and Jet2 cabin bag rules confirmed for 2025

Summer is just around the corner and that means it is time to book some holidays. 

For those who are planning to seek some sun in 2025 there are important rules to follow in order to avoid costly fines at airports. 

The low-cost airlines in the UK and Ireland have released their latest information on carry on luggage rules and it shows exactly what luggage you can and cannot take onto a plane.

With fines of over £50 from some airlines if your bag does not fit, it is important to check before travelling that your cabin bags will be allowed on the plane.

Ryanair carry on baggage rules

Ryanair has strict luggage rules and has baskets to check your cabin bag size before you check in. If your bag fits in the container you will be fine to fly. If it does not fit you could face an extra charge in order to take your bag on the flight.

Ryanair allows you to carry a small personal bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you and a 10kg bag (55x40x20cm) onboard, to be stored in the overhead locker with its priority boarding option.

The small personal bag is described as a handbag or a laptop bag. You can buy bags that fit these exact dimensions if you are worried about your handbag being too large.

The 10kg bag is a standard small suitcase but the 20cm maximum depth can catch some travellers out. Some luggage brands are now selling ‘Ryanair friendly’ cabin bags with the exact dimensions. Aerolite has hard shell suitcases from £40 here.

Easyjet carry on baggage rules

Every passenger on Easyjet can bring on a small cabin bag that can be placed underneath the seat in front. At 45 x 36 x 20 cm, it is actually larger than the maximum cabin bag allowed on Ryanair flights. 

It means you can use something more like a small duffle bag or holdall compared to the more compact size of the Ryanair option. You can see Easyjet-friendly cabin bags here.

The larger 10kg cabin bag can be 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Again this is slightly larger than the maximum allowed on a Ryanair plane. You can buy specific Easyjet cabin bags at Rock luggage from £85 or at Aerolite from £49.99.

You are only allowed a 10kg cabin bag on Easyjet if you have paid extra for speedy boarding.

Jet2 carry on baggage rules

Jet2 passengers can bring on a single cabin bag measuring just 40cm x 30cm x 15cm, which is the smallest of the three airlines and is slightly different dimension to the Ryanair small cabin bag.

Passengers can also bring a 10kg bag measuring 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, which is exactly the same size as Easyjet. It means buying a cabin bag that fits Easyjet allows you to also use it on Jet2 flights.
