Holidaymakers lose new Jet2 route to the Canary Islands

Holidaymakers hoping to escape to La Palma from Manchester will soon have fewer options, after Jet2 announced plans to cancel its flights to the Canary Island just months after launching the service.

The route only debuted earlier this year, offering travellers a direct journey of around four and a half hours.

Flights operated twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with introductory fares from €57 (£48.18). Jet2 had also been preparing to launch services from London Stansted.

However, the airline has now confirmed that both flights and holiday packages to La Palma will be withdrawn from October 30.

Jet2 said the decision followed a review of its wider flight schedule, describing the move as a “difficult decision”.

A spokesperson explained that the company regularly reassesses its routes to keep up with changing customer demand, meaning some services may be removed as others are introduced.

“This gives us the ability to add flights and holidays in response to demand, and very occasionally we may withdraw them too.”

The airline apologised to customers whose plans have been affected and highlighted its range of alternative destinations for those wishing to rebook.

Holidaymakers face fewer direct routes to La Palma

The cancellation also leaves travellers with limited direct options from Manchester. Jet2 was one of just two UK airlines serving La Palma from the city, with TUI providing the other service on a seasonal basis.

At the time of writing, TUI did not appear to have any direct flights between Manchester and La Palma available beyond October either.

Its weekly Thursday service from London Gatwick, however, remains an option for those keen to visit the island.
