Storm Boelo brings another travel headache

Passengers aboard Jet2 flight LS1310 from Venice to Birmingham were left shaken on Sunday after the Boeing 737-800 veered off the runway at Birmingham Airport following its landing.

The plane landed at around 2.19pm local time before leaving the runway and moving onto the grass, the BBC reported.

The incident was blamed on the difficult weather conditions caused by Storm Boelo.

Jet2 confirmed the incident in a statement to BBC News, saying: “Flight LS1310 from Venice to Birmingham temporarily moved off the runway after landing at Birmingham Airport earlier this afternoon, due to exceptional weather conditions caused by Storm Boelo.”

Met Office warns of 129km/h gusts

Strong winds affected parts of the UK over the weekend, with Birmingham also experiencing blustery conditions.

Gusts at the airport were forecast to reach around 68km/h on Sunday afternoon.

The Met Office warned that northern parts of the UK would face the strongest winds, with some exposed areas potentially experiencing gusts of up to 129km/h.

Storm Boelo also raised the risk of travel disruption, as strong winds can make aircraft landings more difficult and complicate airport operations. Heavy rain can add to the challenges by reducing visibility.
