Suella Braverman was left red-faced by Fiona Bruce after complaining that the Question Time audience was biased against her.
On Thursday, the Reform MP appeared on the BBC programme in Tottenham alongside energy secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh, shadow minister Julia Lopez and journalist Oli Dugmore.
Throughout the programme, Braverman had been condemned by the panel and a number of audience members, particularly over her controversial comments about Englishness.
Towards the end of the programme, Braverman had seemingly had enough of her divisive comments being called out and decided it was not her that was the problem, but the audience.
But along with the classic complaint about the audience being too left-wing and woke, Braverman also wasn’t happy with it being too Conservative.
She grumbled: “Very Labour audience, very Conservative-Labour audience.”
After an awkward silence, Bruce asked the Fareham and Waterlooville MP if she would like to know the makeup of the audience.
As Braverman asked if anyone supports Reform in the audience, Bruce comprehensively outlined how the BBC had chosen the audience.
She explained that the audience was vetted for their political allegiance but because the programme was being filmed in an area with strong Labour representation there were obviously going to be more left-leaning voices in the audience.
But she made clear all parties were represented along with people who have no political allegiance.
She also explained to Braverman the simple maths that there are always going to be more people in the audience who don’t support Reform than those who do.
This isn’t the first time Bruce has had to hit back at a Reform politician’s accusations of BBC bias.
In the summer, the party’s home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf was put in his place when he claimed only four people in the audience were Reform voters.
