A huge majority of Sunday Times readers would like to see Article 50 revoked, according to an online poll conducted by the pro-Brexit newspaper. The poll was behind a paywall on the newspaper's website and a petition calling for the revocation of Article 50 reached 6 million signatures. The poll revealed that 73% of the 15,585 respondents want to see Article 50 revoked, with the remaining 27% against revoking it. On the poll's page, it said: “for some, this would be a fundamental betrayal of democracy” but could also be seen as “the only way of preventing a disastrous Brexit.” The Sunday Times was firm in its support of Brexit ahead of the 2016 referendum, and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, has reportedly spoken out against the EU before. According to Anthony Hilton in the Evening Standard, Murdoch is alleged to have said that he opposed the EU because they do not listen to anything he has to say. He wrote: “I once asked Rupert Murdoch why he was so opposed to the European Union. ‘That’s easy,’ he replied. ‘When I go into Downing Street they do what I say; when I go to Brussels they take no notice.” Last week, in a series of indicative votes, revoking Article 50 was rejected by a huge margin. https://twitter.com/PoliticsJOE_UK/status/1111020714562383873 But so was leaving with no deal on April 12, and every other motion put forward, including holding a 'confirmatory' referendum.
