Count Binface responds to Keir Starmer’s MP resignation with by-election to be triggered

Could Count Binface be eyeing up another by-election campaign?

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that after 11 years representing Holborn and St Pancras, Starmer would be resigning as the constituency’s MP.

Speaking to the Camden New Journal, the former prime minister said: “It has been a huge honour and privilege to represent the best constituency in the country and to have taken over from Frank Dobson, who was such a great constituency MP and a member of the last Labour government.”

Starmer said he will “focus on other things and that will be international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast-changing world.”

He added: “I will also continue, as I have done for a long time now with others, work on combating violence against women and girls; that is an issue that matters to me hugely.

“It’s work I started before I became an MP and it’s work I’m keen to continue after I’m an MP.

“So international affairs on the one hand, and continuing my work on violence against women and girls on the other.”

Holborn and St Pancras constituents will go to the polls – but will Count Binface stand?

Starmer’s resignation means a by-election will be held in Holborn and St Pancras, and attention will soon turn to who will stand in the vote.

Zack Polanski has previously said Holborn and St Pancras is an area he could stand at a future general election.

But after the most recent parliamentary by-election in England, someone else might also be eyeing up a campaign in North London – Count Binface.

Reacting to Starmer’s resignation on social media, Count Binface wrote on Tuesday: “Can’t get a moment’s peace on this bloody planet.”

When will the Holborn and St Pancras by-election take place?

A date has yet to be announced for the by-election, but it will be held this year.

At the 2024 general election, Starmer won the seat with 49% of the vote, with the Green Party finishing in third behind an independent candidate.

The Holborn and St Pancras seat was created in 1983 and has only ever been won by Labour. However, the Greens have enjoyed a surge in support in central London since Polanski became party leader.

The Greens won control of three London borough councils at May’s local elections, along with two mayoralties in Hackney and Lewisham.
