John McCain reportedly doesn’t want Donald Trump at his funeral

John McCain has long had a tumultuous relationship with the sitting President.

When running for the office, Donald Trump remarked of veteran John McCain that "He's a hero because he was captured, I like people who weren't captured." McCain has also been at odds with his party's president when it comes to issues such as the threat posed by Russia. He also famously returned to Washington DC from his Arizona sickbed to vote against his own party's repeal of Obamacare last year. When Trump then physically mocked McCain's thumbs-down gesture which he used to vote against the bill, McCain's daughter Meghan tweeted "What more must my family be put through right now? This is abhorrent." McCain has been suffering from brain cancer for the last year and is currently in his home state of Arizona, recovering from intestinal surgery. While it is not public how much longer McCain expects to live, it is believed that plans have already been made for his funeral. In a break from tradition, it seems that the President will not be involved in the funeral — with a source close to McCain saying that the Senator would prefer if Vice-President Mike Pence were to attend instead. According to NBC, former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush plan to be eulogists at McCain's funeral service.
