JOE spoke to Brandon Lewis of the Home Office about the government's settlement status scheme

Ahead of the United Kingdom's impending exit from the European Union, migrants from the bloc who have lived here for longer than five years after being asked to apply for settled status via a government scheme. After investigations revealed that numerous Europeans residing in the UK were not able to secure settled status due to supposedly insufficient evidence, we spoke to Minister of State for the Home Office, Brandon Lewis. Lewis claim only one person has been denied settled status due to their criminal record, and that anyone else experiencing difficulty will have made an error on their form. He added: "We can work with them, help them through the process and get that status approved. That's our aim."
