A video has gone viral of Abdul El-Sayed having a heated clash with a Sky News reporter hours before he was elected to the US senate in the American midterm elections.
The newly elected Democrat senator was filmed having a tense encounter with Sky News' US correspondent James Matthews, accusing him of "chasing" him.
El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan on Wednesday, becoming the first muslim elected to the US Senate.
After being approached by Matthews for an interview on Tuesday evening, El-Sayed said: "Are you registered to vote in the state of Michigan?”
After Matthews replied no, El-Sayed said: “So why would I care to have a conversation with you?... I don’t care what you think or the questions you ask.”
Putting his hands on Matthews' shoulders, he continued: “You know how many votes I want to get in the UK? Zero. I am never running for office in the UK.”
“This election matters to the world,” Matthews replied.
“I do not care what you think or the questions you ask," he continued, “Where are your viewers?” to which Matthews replied that they were “international”.
“Sky News is not viewed in the United States of America, it’s only viewed in the UK, like five people watch it here,” El-Sayed replied.
He added: “I’ve answered all the questions that I care to answer for viewers of the United Kingdom, so I’m going to ask you to stop chasing me around.”
Reportedly, El-Sayed arrived at the polling booth after Sky News.
