Boris Johnson appeared on the big screen at the Oval and was booed by the crowd

'He appears to be on his own'

‘He appears to be on his own’

Boris Johnson is in the wilderness, political and social.

He’s been spotted at the cricket today, presumably trying to get away from it all and have a little me time. England are playing India in the second day of the fifth test in a series which they have already won. Boris is there watching.

In one of those lulls in play, which I understand happens quite regularly in cricket, the camera panned around the crowd. It showed Johnson in the stand on his phone (swiping on Tinder?).

David Gower, commentating, said: “The former foreign secretary, appears to be on his own.

“Appears to be on his own which reflects what we’ve seen in the papers in the last few days.”

Boos begin to reverberate around the ground, prompting Boris to look up. He glances around, hopefully to a big screen.

This is not the first time a senior Tory has been booed by the public at a sporting event – a sentence which should not be met with surprise.

At 2012’s Paralympics in London George Osborne was met by a resounding jeer at a medal ceremony which is available for your viewing pleasure here:
