Angela Rayner has resigned from her position as Deputy Prime Minister, per Sky News.
Her resignation comes amidst a scandal surrounding tax payments Rayner is accused of failing to pay on the purchase of a new home.
Earlier today, Rayner is said to have admitted not paying the tax to Sky News, and has now resigned from her role in the government.
She is also expected to resign as deputy leader of the Labour Party
Prime Minster Keir Starmer had previously given the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne his full support, and even added that he was "proud" to have worked with her.
On the stamp duty row; earlier this week Angela Rayner admitted that she received incorrect legal advice which led her to pay the wrong amount of stamp duty tax on a property she owns.
Rayner has been one of Keir Starmer's strongest allies in government where she has served as Deputy PM since Labour's landslide election victory last year.
She has worked as deputy leader of the Labour party since 2020.
Her political career began as a trade union representative for Unison, which eventually led to her election as the MP for Ashton‑under‑Lyne at the 2015 General Election.
