Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined Ukraine’s key priorities ahead of talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.
On social media, Zelenskyy says security guarantees are the “most important” detail in talks, while also highlighting territorial issues and the future of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, calling the latter two “sensitive issues.”
The Ukrainian President goes on to say that if the US probes into elections in Ukraine, he will be firm that these "certainly cannot" be held in the "conditions in which we live today".
"There should be a safe sky and security everywhere in our territory, at least during elections or referendums," he says, per Sky News.
US President Donald Trump and Zelensky are expected to get talks going at around 8 pm tonight (UK time), with territorial issues and security guarantees as the main discussion points.
For Ukraine, any future peace deal will hinge on these two issues.
Kyiv is opposed to ceding any land that Russian forces do not currently occupy and seeks a guarantee that Moscow will not resume the conflict after a peace agreement is reached.
Central to Ukraine's efforts to tilt talks in their favour is a 20-point plan, which Zelenskyy says is "about 90% ready".
