YouTuber posts video telling fans 'I'm not dead' - dies days later

He had more than 1 million subscribers on the platform

A YouTuber who had racked up hundreds of millions of views on his videos has sadly died just days after posting a video in which he reassured followers that he wasn't dead.

Norwegian Tor Eckhoff, who was better known by his YouTube username Apetor, uploaded a video on November 22 entitled "I Am Not Dead, I Am 57 Today." In the video, he could be seen in a bath outside, with the number 57 written on his head, whilst he swigged back several shots of vodka and some 'tea liquor.'

He also filmed himself kissing a tree and putting a plastic bag over his head.

It turns out this was not out of the ordinary for Tor though, who posted a video every birthday telling his followers that he wasn't dead.

However just days after his latest video went online, he fell through ice at Jakobs Dam outside Kongsberg, Norway, on November 26.

According to Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang, he was rushed to hospital but died the following day.

Apetor's most popular video has got more than 94 million views and in total his videos have racked up almost 390 million views.

In a post on Facebook, translated from Norwegian, his partner Tove Skjerven wrote: "My dearest Tor. Friday the 26th. November was just a regular Friday.

"You went to a water near Kongsberg, and you looked forward to skating. You should also film a little, which you should use in a video on YouTube. You messaged me when you arrived, with pictures of yourself and the water. Nice relationship, you wrote.

"But something went horribly wrong. You ended up in the ice water, and this time you didn't get back up, like you did so many times before!

"In the end, you were picked up by divers and sent by air ambulance to Ullevål hospital. They did everything they could to bring you back to life, but you had been underwater for too long.

"On Saturday night John and I were with you when the doctors in the hospital turned off all the machines that kept your body going.

"Thank you for all you have been to Johannes and me. We have endless good memories, and we miss you so indescribable!"

My very dear Tor ❤ Friday 26 November was a normal Friday. You went to a lake near Kongsberg, and you were looking...
