Your first proper look at the greatest movie ever made is finally here

First trailer for the meg 2 drops

This is like Christmas Eve, but with more samurai swords

Back in April, we wrote with pure jealousy in our hearts about the lucky few who got an early look at new footage from The Meg 2: The Trench, which we are officially calling The Greatest Movie Ever Made. When would WE be able to see this footage? And why wasn’t the answer “Right now”??

And so we sat in anger for most of a fortnight, but thankfully Warner Bros. picked up what we were putting down, and late on Monday night, they released the first official trailer for The Trench based sequel, and we are happy to report that it is even more magnificent than we ever dared to dream.

Without further ado, we present to you the official trailer for The Meg 2: The Trench:

It has dinosaurs, then bigger dinosaurs, then BIGGER dinosaurs, then AN EVEN BIGGER shark, and then Jason Statham going down to The Trench, and then LOADS of big sharks, and “Meg-proof” glass (spoilers: it is not Meg-proof), and then tourists being swallowed whole, and then a giant squid attacking a helicopter, and then Jason Statham on a jet-ski with a sword attacking the BIGGEST shark…

We’re absolutely exhausted just writing the description, so we can only imagine how we’re going to feel once this hits IMAX! As we reported previously, the sequel is directed by Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire), with Statham joined on screen by Cliff Curtis (Hobbs & Shaw), Sienna Guillory (Love Actually), and Wu Jing, who is viewed by many as being China’s biggest movie star right now.

His addition to the cast list could see the sequel make an absolute killing at the global box office, as the first Meg movie made $530 million globally, with $155 million of that coming from China alone, where Hollywood movies have been doing less and less well lately.

But, to be fair, most Hollywood movies don’t have Statham on a jet-ski with a sword attacking a giant shark. And, really, they should have thought of that by now.

The Meg 2: The Trench is currently scheduled to arrive in UK and Irish cinemas on Friday, 4 August.
