The White House has accused the BBC of spreading fake news concerning depictions of the 2021 US Capitol Hill riots in a Panorama documentary.
White House press secretary and Donald Trump mouthpiece Karoline Leavitt accused the BBC of being “purposefully dishonest” and used "selectively edited" footage in its film.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Leavitt described the BBC as "100% fake news" and a "propaganda machine".
She added that watching BBC bulletins on trips to the UK "ruins" her day and claimed taxpayers are being "forced to foot the bill for a leftist propaganda machine".
The accusations from the White House follow questions from MPs saying that the BBC had "serious questions to answer" about the way it edited a speech by the US president Donald Trump in a BBC Panorama documentary.
The Telegraph claim to have seen a leaked document that suggested an episode of BBC's Panorama programme "completely misled" viewers being splicing two parts of the speech together.
She said: “This purposefully dishonest, selectively edited clip by the BBC is further evidence that they are total, 100% fake news that should no longer be worth the time on the television screens of the great people of the United Kingdom.
“Every time I travel to the United Kingdom with President Trump and am forced to watch the BBC in our hotel rooms, it ruins my day listening to their blatant propaganda and lies about the president of the United States and all that he’s doing to make America better and the world a safer place.”
Latest reports from the Telegraph say that the BBC is set to apologise for the way it handled the episode of Panorama in question and the Trump's speech.
A BBC spokesperson said: “The BBC chairman will provide a full response to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on Monday.”
