Wanted man hands himself in as he’d rather spend lockdown in jail than at home

JOE

The man explained he would rather be back in prison than with the people he was living with

If we’re totally honest, there can’t be many of us who can say they’ve breezed through this lockdown thing without feeling the strain. The novelty of not having to leave the house unless we absolutely had to soon wore off, with some of us willing to do almost anything to break the monotony of day after day after day spent at home.

This, though is probably a little bit much…

According to Sussex Police, a man wanted for prison recall had grown so weary of life at home under lockdown that he decided the best option was to turn himself in. Yes, even though it would result in a return to jail, this, he said, would at least give him some “peace  and quiet” and so took himself to a police station in Burgess Hill.

Inspector Darren Tayor explained the bizarre circumstances On Twitter:

“Peace and quiet! Wanted male handed himself in to the team yesterday afternoon after informing us he would rather go back to prison than have to spend more time with the people he was living with!

“One in custody and heading back to prison to serve some further time on his own.”
