A woman in New York is planning to file a grievance with the city’s Civilian Review Board after an NYPD officer shot her dog dead in her apartment block in the Bronx.

In a video of the incident obtained by the New York Daily News, the dog appears to be wagging his tail as he approaches the officer.

Yvonne Rosado says she told the officer her four-year-old pitbull Spike was friendly before he opened fire on the dog.

The officer was responding to a domestic disturbance call at a neighbouring apartment but Rosado – who says she was dancing to Kid Cudi with Spike at the time – opened her front door when she heard a commotion outside.

Below is the video, but be warned that if feature images of a dog being fatally shot.
