Vegans throw roses on meat at counter to pay ‘homage to the fallen’

Vegan protesters have taken their cause to new heights and gone for a more sombre approach.

While the nation mourns the death of a monarch, a video of some vegans deciding to place flowers on packaged meat to mourn the dead animals has gone viral.

The video from a couple of years back has recently resurfaced on social media, sees a handful of people crowd around the meat counter at a supermarket.

Taking on the funeral-theme, some orchestral music soundtracks moments, as one protester gently
places some roses on counter – which has a Fresh Meat sign above it.

The 14-second video carries on as others ‘pay their respects’.

The video has clocked up 1.1k likes, nearly 1k quote tweets and over 300 retweets and plenty of comments.

Many, probably not what those paying tribute, had in mind.

One Twitter user wote: “I don’t know how many years my brain can handle this planet. Everything nowadays is a video captured virtue signal for an ate up cause.”

Another saw the opportunity to poke fun out of the group: “Now I can bring my girlfriend a rose with dinner.”

“If y’all could keep doing this my wife loves when I bring home flowers and a steak to cook,” a third added.

The video has been recirculating as Animal Rebellion activists have caused caused mayhem in a series of protests in recent weeks including one that involved them supergluing themselves to Muller lorries.

Traffic was halted last week as around 40 Animal Rebellion members climbed on top of the vehicles in protest against the dairy industry.

The group has carried out blockades at four dairies as part of its campaign for people to adopt a plant-based diet.

This particular protest took place at a Muller dairy factory depot in Droitwich, Worcs.

More than 30 people were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespassing over the incident.

Around £80,000 worth of damage was caused to the lorries.

More than 40 businesses who operate out of the industrial park on Pointon Way have experienced disruption because of the activists.

Assistant Chief Constable of West Mercia Police Richard Cooper said: “We respect the right to peaceful protest but we will take proportionate action when the law is broken.

“Those who commit crimes while protesting will be dealt with fairly but robustly by West Mercia Police.”

According to workers, the majority of the lorries which were occupied were empty of any food products.

Lorry driver Manny Singh said: “I’ve been here since 7am, it’s just awful.”

Tom Price, who works for AKW Medicare near the Muller plant, said: “It’s not going to change the world, I’ve had to come to work, I was late, I was late to earn money.”

Some of the protesters superglued themselves to the roof of an Amazon Prime delivery truck.

Others had to be cut free after chaining themselves to the top of the lorry.

Some drivers jokingly offered free food to the vegan activists if they came down, with one person telling them: “I’ll take you for a three course meal, if you come down.”
