An urgent warning has been issued to walkers and pet owners as venomous snakes have been spotted around the UK.
The Common European Viper, also known as an Adder, has seen an increase in sightings in parts of the UK.
In particular, Cornwall and Wales have reached record numbers of sightings of the snake.
There have also been sightings of Adders in London.
According to the London Wildlife Trust, they are mainly found in Hounslow Heath.
They have been seen in mountainous areas, as well as on beaches in Wales.
South Wales Police Force have issued a warning to pet owners to keep their pets on a leash while out walking to keep them safe.
Adders are the UK's only venomous snake, but are typically quite shy creatures, according to The Standard.
While a bite from the creature can be very damaging, they tend to avoid humans, opting usually to play dead or hide.
They generally live in long grassy areas and can live up to 15 years and measure up to 80 cm in length.
According to experts, the risk from Adders is quite low due to their shy nature, however caution is still advised.
The Wildlife Trusts said: "The Adder is the UK’s only venomous snake but its venom is generally of little danger to humans.
"An adder bite can be painful and cause inflammation, but is really only dangerous to the very young, ill or old.
"If bitten, medical attention should be sought immediately.
"Adders are secretive animals and prefer to slither off into the undergrowth rather than confront and bite humans and domestic animals – most attacks happen when they are trodden on or picked up.
"Instead, they use their venom to immobilise and kill their prey of small mammals, nestlings and lizards."
