Tory MP found guilty of sexually assaulting 15-year-old boy

Tory MP Imran Ahmad Khan has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager in 2008. Khan denied groping the 15-year-old at a house in Staffordshire in January 2008, but was found guilty on Monday (April 11) after a week-long trial, the BBC reports. The MP was charged in June last year, after which he had the whip suspended by his party. As a result, has has sat as an independent in the House of Commons, but was still a member of the Conservative Party. A by-election is now almost certainly take place in his Wakefield seat, which he won in 2019 with a majority of 3,358. Labour has called for Khan to immediately resign from his position as an MP. A spokesperson for the party said: "Imran Ahmad Khan should immediately resign so a by-election can take place and the people of Wakefield can get the representation they deserve." If the 48-year-old is handed a custodial sentence of 12 months or more then he will be immediately removed as an MP, triggering a by-election in the constituency. If the sentence is less than 12 months, a by-election could still be triggered if his constituents trigger a recall procedure. Related links:
